It has been 3 weeks already in NJ. あっというまに３週間たちました。

Sahar in NJ

あっという間に３週間経ちました。
Time flies, and it has been 3 weeks already!

今回は住む地区をしぼっていたので新居もわりとあっさり決まって、家具も生活用品もほぼIKEAでまとめ買いしたので、２週間目には普通に生活できる住居になってました！
Apartment search was quite easy since we new which area we want to live. We got almost all furnitures and house holding items from Ikea in a day ( It took quite a bit of assembling time, of course ), and we made our new home in NJ in 2 weeks!

新居を契約したその日に近所の保育園を２件見に行って、あっさりとその一つにきまったので、サハル君も既に先週の月曜日からぼちぼち保育園に通い始めたし。
We found a nice daycare for Sahar at the same day we sigh our apartment, and he gradually started to go there since last week.

３週間目はわりかしのんびりと、最初の２週間しっかりかまってあげられなかったサハル君とゆっくり遊んであげて過ごしていました。
In the 3rd week, we relaxed and spent lots of time with Sahar to cover up for the first 2 weeks when we couldn't pay much attention for him.

NJ生活の出だしはなかなか好調です。
Our NJ life so far is quite nice.

サブレット Sublet：
新居を探す間の仮住まいにairbnb.comを通して間借りしておいたShamanthaのお宅へ。彼女も彼女の弟のBrianも息子のJerryもほんっとに親切で、いろんなところに案内してくれたり、DMVとかまで連れてってくれてかいがいしく車のレジストレーションを手伝ってくれたり、Saharのめんどうを見てくれたり、まるで親戚のようにもてなしてくれました。カリビアンってとっても温かい人たちが多い。

I sublet a room through airbnb.com for our first 10 days while our apartment search. Our hosts, Samantha, Brian, and Jerry are one of the sweetest people in the earth. They treated like a family, and showed us around the town, played with Sahar, and they even took us to DMV to help our car registered.

車 Car：
これがないとNJではどこにもいけない！ので、すでに到着前に購入しておいた車を着いた次の日にピックアップに行きました。絶妙のタイミングでコネチカットからマンハッタンへ引っ越したので車のいらなくなったカホちゃんから彼女の愛車を購入。
すっごい乗りごこちのよい車です。カホちゃんありがとう！
そして帰りにちらっと（本当にちらっと）れいこちゃんとレミちゃんを訪ね、それからNJまでドライブ。Staten Islandを通って帰り、橋を渡るのに１３ドル。高！！

I knew that we could't go anywhere without car in NJ, I had bought a car before we arrived there, and picking it up was our first task.
I bought it from Kaho, a friend of mine, who has just moved to Manhattan from Connecticut, and doesn't need a car anymore. It was a perfect timing. The car is very well maintained, and very comfortable. Thanks Kaho!!

We stop by to visit Reiko and Remi for 30 mins, and headed to NJ through Staten Island. The toll for the bridge is $13! Expensive!!!

住居：
４月に一度下見に来たときに、ギルの行く大学の周辺のいろんなエリアをドライブして、最も感じのよかったのがHighland Park。メインロード上にはカフェやレストランやお店が並んでいて、でも一歩横道に入ると閑静な住宅街というかんじのとてもバランスのとれたエリアです。
I came to see this area in April, and drove around the Rutger campus, where Gil is attending for a year. The area I liked most was the Highland Park. There are cafe, restaurants, and small shops along the main road, yet all streets behind the main road are residential and very quiet.

This large park is 4 blocks away from our apt.
川沿いの大きな公園まで歩いて１０分

大学に一番近く、ダウンタウンやNYに行く駅のあるNew Brunswickは、ちょっと住むにはうるさそうだし、治安もあまりよくない。大学の北側のPiscatawayや西側のSomersetは庭付きの大きな家が並ぶ全くの住宅街で、もう車に乗らないと全くどこにもいけない。そして買い物に行くとすれば超巨大ショッピングモールの超巨大スーパーマーケット。庭付きの大きな家にはあこがれるけど、なんとなくわたしたちのライフスタイルとはあわない。しかも家具全くないんで、そんな大きな家を埋めるための家具を買っていたら破産してしまうので、そのエリアも却下。

New Brunswick, the downtown of this area with the train station is too crowded and not very safe although closest to the campus. Piscataway, the north side of the campus, and Somerset, the west side of campus, are the residential areas, where has large houses with back+front yard. Large house with yard is very attempting, but we don't like the life which 100% depends on the car, and shop in the huge shopping centers and gigantic supermarkets.

そんなわけで、最初から家探しはHighland Parkのみで行こうときめていたので、部屋も４つくらい見に行ってあっさり決まりました。４ブロック歩くとメインロードにいけるし、反対に向かって４ブロック歩くと、川沿いの大きな公園。かなり理想的なロケーション。

Therefore, we had already decided to live in the Highland Park, and it made our apartment search very easy. We got a place after we saw 4 places. It is 4 blocks away from the main road, and 4 blocks away on the other way to go to a huge park along the river. Ideal place for a family with a kid :)


家具:
今回、服とラップトップのみで海外移住してきた私たちなので、すべての家具、台所用品、電化製品、家庭用品を購入しないといけなかったんです。でも滞在はほんの一年弱。いかに安く、効率よく、心地よい生活空間を作るか。。。craigslistとかで中古の家具を探して。。とかも考えたけど、結局大きい物を運ぶのが大変だし、サーチもめんどくさいし、、、ということで、ほとんどすべての家具と生活用品をIKEAでまとめ買い。

We came with only our cloths and laptop computers. We had to buy everything else and we are only staying in the U.S. for less than one year.
Setting up the comfortable home cheap and quick was our mission, and we decided to buy everything from Ikea in a shot.

Cheapest kitchen stuffs from IKEA. I love Sahar's colorful plastic plates. 

台所用品なんかは、ほぼ一番安いものをぽんぽんかごに放り投げていって集めたにしては、結構かわいらしくまとまっていて、IKEAやるじゃんと思った。ただし家具はびっくりするくらい重みがなくて軽い！（笑

Furnitures are surprisingly light in weight! but they are totally good enough for a year.  We threw their cheapest kitchen items in the cart, but they all look quite look decent and functional.

ソファだけは、座り心地のよいものが見つからなかったので、他の家具屋さんで購入。大きくてしっかりしてて、色もよくて、ギルとわたしのお気に入り。

わりと大きなリビング＋２ベッドルームのアパートなので、必要な家具を全部配置しても、なんだかがら〜〜〜んとしているけど、サハルが走り回れる空間がいっぱいあって、それはそれでアリかな。

Only thing we bought from other store is the red sofa. It is large, heavy, and really comfortable. We love it.
Our apt has a large living room with 2 bed room. It is still quite empty after we put all necessary furnitures, but we like it so that Sahar has enough space to run around.
